Kamusal alan heykeli olarak güneş saati uygulaması

Abstract

ABSTRACT Statues produced for public space, as in other elements of public share, has recently had more function than being mere imagery. Hence, they could play an efficient role in creation of much more livable public areas, provided that they are to be produced in order to appeal in many aspects the ones who shall use the areas in question. In addition to the fact that a statue of public space could subsist in conjunction with the surroundings where it is situated, it shall physically and mentally have unity via the mission it has undertaken. Statues of public space are notably different from indoor sculptures in terms of both as surroundings and as messages involved and their active role in social relationships. Identity of a city is determined by the past traces of that city. In our day, each city all around the world definitely has an imagery which brings its past to the present. Sundials, as one of the images shuttling between past and present, serve an image having a visual presentation besides its own functionality. Sundials, which has nowadays lost the quality of being functional, are being re-designed in an artistic manner. They could, in addition to composing a new image which has a past meaning in the mind of public space owners, be brought into being as an artistic value in the public space by creating visual and perceptual difference in the place they were designed for. As sculpture of a sundial is the part of a relationship, it also --over itself-- bridges over between viewer and time. Therefore, a sundial sculpture to be placed in public space should gain all the plastic components essential for statues of public space; such like socio-cultural structure, memories and physical features of the place, and user needs arising from usage routines of the place.

Bugün geçmişte olduğu gibi kamusal alanlar için üretilen heykeller diğer kamusal alan elemanlarında olduğu gibi basit bir imge olmaktan çok daha fazla işleve hizmet etmektedir. Bu yüzden pek çok açıdan bu mekanları kullananlara hitap edecek şekilde üretilmeleri ile daha iyi yaşanabilir kamusal alanlar yaratmada etkin bir rol üstlenebilirler. Bir kamusal alan heykeli içerisinde bulunduğu çevresi ile kurduğu ilişkilerle varlığını sürdürürken yüklendiği misyonla beraber düşünsel ve fiziksel anlamda bütünlüğe kavuşacaktır. Kamusal açık alanda yer alan yapıtlar gerek çevre, gerekse içerdiği bildiriler ve toplumsal ilişkilerde etkin bir rol alması bakımından iç mekan için tasarlanan heykellerden farklıdır.Kentlerin kimliklerini yine o kentlerin geçmişten gelen izleri belirlemektedir. Bugün dünyanın bütün coğrafyasında yer alan kentlerin dününü bugüne taşıyan bir imgesi mutlaka bulunmaktadır. Dün ve bugün arasında gidip gelen imgelerden biri olan Güneş saatleri de kendi işlevsellikleri ile beraber formsal anlamda da görsel sunumu olan imgelerden biridir. Günümüzde işlevsel olma özelliğini yitiren güneş saatleri sanatsal tasarımlarla yeniden kurgulanmaktadır. Tasarlandıkları mekan üzerinde görsel ve algısal farklılık yaratılarak kamusal mekanın sanatsal bir değeri olarak yeniden hayata geçirilerek kamusal alan sahiplerinin zihninde geçmişi olan yeni bir imge oluşmasını sağlayabilir. Güneş saati heykeli ilişkinin tarafı olmakla birlikte üzerinde izleyici ile zaman arsında köprü oluşturur. Bunun için kamusal alana yerleştirilecek güneş saati heykeli sosyo kültürel yapı, mekanın fiziksel özellikleri, belleği ve alanın kullanım alışkanlıklarından doğan kullanıcı ihtiyaçları gibi bütün kamusal alan heykellerinde olması gereken tüm plastik unsurları taşımak durumundadır.
