ANALYZING TURKISH SHIP MANAGEMENT COMPANIES' EXPECTATIONS FOR THE STUDENTS OF DOKUZ EYLÜL UNIVERSITY MARITIME FACULTY

Abstract

Bologna process is a European reform process which aims to create EuropeanHigher Education Area by 2010. In this period, the education institutions are expected todevelop programs considering determined knowledge, skill and abilities for the graduates.The aim of this study is to determine the knowledge, skills and abilities required for thegraduates which will be graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty throughBologna principles. Within this framework, 20 ship management companies, called asexternal stakeholders, were asked to give feedbacks for the graduates who have worked intheir companies. Also these companies were asked about the expectation and suggestionsfor the knowledge, skills and abilities of the students. Besides they were asked regardingthe advice they could give for the Faculty. In this research, structured interview questionshave been used. In consideration of the obtained data, it is aimed to determine studies andprograms required within Bologna process period by revealing negative and positiveaspects, overcoming the deficiencies and improving the abilities. Bologna süreci, 2010 yılına kadar Avrupa Yükseköğretim Alanı yaratmayıhedefleyen bir Avrupa reform sürecidir. Bu süreç içinde eğitim kurumlarından beklenenpaydaşları (işveren, öğrenci, mezun, akademisyen) ile birlikte; ulusal ve sektörel yeterlilik doğrultusunda, kurum misyonuna ve akreditasyon ölçütlerine uygun, kalite güvencesistemiyle denetlenebilen yeterliliklere dayanan, bilgi, beceri ve yetkinliklere sahipprogramlar geliştirmeleridir.Bu çalışma, Bologna ilkeleri doğrultusunda Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi DenizcilikFakültesi mezunlarının sahip olması beklenen bilgi, beceri ve yetkinliklerinin ortayaçıkarılması sürecini kapsamaktadır. Bu kapsamda çalışmamıza katılan 20 gemi işletmesinebu gemi işletmelerinde çalışan mezunlarımız, staj yapan öğrencilerimiz hakkında bilgi,beceri, yetenek ve örf-adet konularında öğrencilerimizi puanlamaları istenmiş, ayrıcaokulumuza ne gibi tavsiyelerde bulanabilecekleri hakkında sorular yöneltilmiştir. Eldeedilen veriler ışığında mezunlarımızın ve aktif olarak eğitim gören öğrencilerimizin eksikyönleri ve artılarını ortaya çıkararak, okulumuzun bu eksiklikleri gidermek ve artı yönlerindaha geliştirilmesini sağlamak amacıyla Bologna süreci kapsamında okulumuzun ne gibiçalışmalar ve programlar geliştirebileceğini ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmıştır.
