Çocuk edebiyatı çevirilerinde karşılaşılan sorunlar

Abstract

Bilindiği gibi çeviribilim alanında son zamanlarda birçok yeni kuram ortaya çıkmıştır. Edebi metinler ve çevirileri incelenirken bu kuramlardan büyük ölçüde yararlanılmaktadır. Gideon Toury'nin "Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı" bu çeviri kuramlarından biridir. Buna göre çeviri olayı çevirmenin içinde bulunduğu erek kültür ile ilgili birtakım kültürel normlar tarafından oluşturulur. Çevirinin temelini teşkil eden bu normları belirlemek, çevirmenin aldığı kararları ve benimsediği stratejileri oluşturmak betimleyici çeviri çalışmalarının en önemli hedefidir (Toury, 1995: 53). Toury'nin kuramına göre çeviride biçimden çok çevirinin erek kültürdeki işlevi yani erek kültürdeki metnin kabul edilebilirliği konusu önemlidir. Yapılan araştırmalar, çevirinin tamamen erek metni oluşturmaya yönelik tek bir yönteme dayandırılamayacağını göstermiştir. Bu çalışmada ise çevirmenin çeviri problemlerini, çeviri kararlarını ve çeviri sürecinde belirlenen stratejileri belirlemesinde yardımcı olduğu için metot olarak "Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı" ndan yararlanılmıştır. Bu çalışma erek odaklı çeviri kuramının edebi çeviri alanında nasıl bir işleve sahip olduğunu ve çeviri eleştirisine olan katkılarını açıklamaya çalışmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın temelini çocuk edebiyatı ve çevirileri oluşturacaktır. Çalışma üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde, ilk önce çocuk edebiyatının özelliklerinden genel olarak bahsedilecek, daha sonra Türkiye'deki çocuk edebiyatının tarihi gelişimi üzerinde durulacaktır. Ayrıca Tanzimat Dönemi'nde ve Cumhuriyet'in ilanından sonra çocuk edebiyatı ve çeviri çocuk edebiyatının gelişimini etkileyen etmenlerden bahsedilecektir. Birinci bölümde son olarak, çeşitli kuramlar açısından çeviri çocuk edebiyatı ve Gideon Toury'nin erek odaklı kuramı ile ilgili bilgi verilecektir. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümünde ise, çeviri sürecinde kaynak metin ve yazarı büyük öneme sahip olduğundan, yararlanılacak kaynak metin Charlie'nin Çikolata Fabrikası ve yazarı Roald Dahl'dan kısaca bahsedilecektir. Ayrıca kaynak metni çeviren çevirmenler ve bu kitapları basan yayınevi hakkında genel bir bilgi verilecektir. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde ise, farklı çeviri stratejilerini göstermek amacıyla Roald Dahl'ın eseri ve iki farklı çevirisi erek odaklı kuramın özelliklerinden yararlanılarak incelenecektir. As it is known, many new theories about translation studies have emerged recently. While analyzing the literary texts and their translations, these theories have an important role. Gideon Toury's "Descriptive Translation Studies" is one of these translation theories. According to this theory, translation activity is held with the help of some cultural norms related with the target culture by the translator. The main aim of Descriptive Studies is to establish these norms, strategic choices made and strategies adopted by the translator(Toury,1995:53). In Toury's method, the function of translation in the target culture, that is the acceptibality of the text in the target culture is very important. Researches about this subject show that, in translation only a single approach cannot be used during the production of a target text. In this thesis, "Descriptive Translation Studies" is chosen as a method since it helps the translator to determine the translation problems, translation choices and strategies during the translation process. This study tries to find out how the target-oriented theory operates within literary translation. The main focus will be on children's literature and its translations. The study consists of three parts. In the first chapter, first general characteristics of children's literature will be given then the history of translation of children's literature in Turkey will be studied. Also the dynamics which have affected the development of children's literature and translated children's literature after the foundation of Turkish Republic will be given. Lastly, different theories and especially Gideon Toury's target-oriented theory about translations of children's literature will be studied. In the second chapter of this study, a short information about the source text Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and about its writer Roald Dahl will be given since the source text and the writer are very important in the translation process. Apart from these, some general information about the translators of the source text and the publishing house of these books will be given. In the third part of this study, in order to show the different translation strategies, the work of Roald Dahl and its two different translations will be analyzed using the features of target oriented approach.
